Min Byung-Moo

Cheong Dong-Kyun
Abstract
This study was carried out for the purpose of evaluating the total urinary mercury contents of the dental workers in Korea. The urinary mercury levels were used to determine the degree of exposure to mercury vapor.
Samples of urine collected from 102 subjects -74 dentists, 28 dental auxiliaries were analyzed by flameless method of atomic absorption spectrophotometry (Atonispcc-111550, Rank Hilger Co., England) to determine the urinary mercury levels.
It was revealed that more than 30% of dentists and dental auxiliaries had above normal urinary levels and that auxiliaries had higher urinary levels than dentists. This study also seemed to indicate that urinary mercury levels continue to rise with the number of years of exposure.
